This recipe is from the Christmas Recipes From the Lion House. Since 1989, we have had it for breakfast on Christmas morning. It can be made the day before and baked in the oven while you open presents.
8 slices bread or 4 c. dried bread cubes
1/4 c. melted margarine
1 c. cubed ham or sliced sausages, precooked
2 c. grated Cheddar cheese
5 eggs, beaten
1½ c. milk
1 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. dry mustard
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Brush melted margarine on bread. Cut up into cubes and spread into a 9 X 13" baking dish. Sprinkle with cubed ham or cooked sausage, and grated cheese. Mix eggs, milk, salt, and mustard and pour over casserole.
Bake for 1-1/2 hours. Makes 8 servings.
