Chocolate Marshmallow Surprises

2 c. flour

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 c. cocoa

1/2 c. shortening

1 tsp. vanilla

1 c. sugar

1/2 c. milk

20 marshmallows


Stir together flour, soda, salt, and coca. Cream together shortening, vanilla, sugar, and egg. Blend in dry ingredients and milk. Drop batter from a spoon 2” apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 min. Remove cookies from oven; set 1/2 of a marshmallow on each cookie. Return to oven to bake for 1 min. Drop a spoonful of icing on each.

Chocolate Icing:

1½ c. powdered sugar

2 T. cocoa

Dash of salt

Heat 3 T. milk, 1 T. butter, and 1 T. shortening and beat into powdered sugar mixture. Icing will be short and soft.
