Black Bottom Cupcakes

These cupcakes have a cheesecake and chocolate chip filling. We got the recipe from Jan Nielson. Her cousin, Carol Miller, made them often for Ben and Steve, Joe and Bob, Rob and Jeff when she would come for a visit.

1 chocolate cake mix

1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese

1/2 pkg. (6 oz.) mini chocolate chips

1 egg

1 c. powdered sugar

Make the cake mix according to package directions. Soften cream cheese and mix with egg and powdered sugar until smooth. Stir in chocolate chips. Spoon a little cake batter in bottom of cupcake papers. Add about 1 tablespoon cream cheese mixture, put more cake batter on top. The cups should be 2/3 full. Bake according to package directions on cake mix box. Frost when cool.
